and graduate training will be reviewed.
A medical license granted by a U.S. state or jurisdiction is required of every practicing physician
When applying for a state medical license, primary verification of your education and graduate training will be reviewed. Additionally, your exam scores, references, hospital privileges, and current and past licenses will also be included in your application. All states require physicians to submit proof of successful completion of all 3 steps of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE).
Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC)
The Interstate Medical Licensure Compact is an agreement among participating U.S. states to work together to significantly streamline the licensing process for physicians who want to practice in multiple states. It offers a voluntary, expedited pathway to licensure for physicians who qualify.
With the introduction of the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC), you may be eligible for multiple state licenses in only a matter of a few weeks. Currently, 31 states participate in the IMLC and several more states are in the review process of entering the bill into their state.
80% of physicians meet the requirements of licensure through the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact. To begin the process, you will be required to complete an online application, pay a non-refundable fee, obtain fingerprints and complete a national criminal background check. You will be notified via email if you qualify for licensure through the IMLC.
